No experience is necessary. Our instructor will guide you through a step by step process in a 1.5-2 hour class to create your very own up-cycled journal.

We are going to go back to pre-school in an adult fashion to create a paper bag journal. I know you are thinking, not me, I don't journal nor can I draw a circle. NO NEED! We are going to build a book that you can use for anything you want, tailored to you. Recipe holder, inspirational quotes, dreams, gratitude, idea board, goal setting, scrapbook, art practice, coupon holder, task list, or organizer. It can be anything you want! All for the price of 4 paper grocery bags and a bottle of glue.

It's about being creative and getting your hands dirty, in a fun, encouraging environment. Grab a few friends, and spend a little time on a new kind of resolution, adding creativity to your life.

To start, you will make your own journal out of recycled materials. Then we will prep and fill in the pages, learning mixed media, playing with watercolor, acrylics, stenciling, drawing, and more cutting and pasting.

Bring the following to the first class:

  • 4-6 Grocery Bags with the handles still attached.
  • A pair of scissors

We will supply pencils, rulers, acrylic paint, mod podge, instructions, brushes, and aprons. Papers, gesso, and mod podge in limited supply.

Bring the following to the second class:

  • Ephemera (items of collectible memorabilia) Images from magazines that inspire you, scrap ribbon, yarn, string, cardboard tags from clothing, photographs, ticket stubs, fake flowers, travel mailings, recipes, old letters, napkins, scrapbook paper, etc.
  • Up-cycled stamping or stenciling items. Cardboard tubes of different sizes, small plastic bottles to stamp circles, netting, doily or lace items, bubble wrap, foam pieces, rubber bands, wine corks, cardboard packaging (such as pill bottle boxes, or boxes from pre-packaged foods).
  • A sheet of scrapbooking paper that coordinates with some of your ephemera $1-$5

Eventually you may want to gather the following:

  • White Gesso
  • An assortment of Scrapbooking papers
  • Matte Medium or Mod Podge

Supplies can be found at Target, Walmart, Amazon, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Joanns
